The weird, the wild, and the weekend

These past few months have been filled with late hours and plenty of collaborative musings, working at the gallery for First and Third Fridays, and attending events for all the projects I’m involved in up to this point.

This month will be an exciting one for art lovers in Phoenix, with Art Detour happening this weekend, and the Paint PHX mural tour in effect.  In accompaniment of these events, 1Spot Gallery will be open for Art Detour weekend and First Friday, and we are also hosting “Abstract Abstract” at the gallery.  The “Abstract Abstract” show will be featuring 3 new paintings I created exclusively for the show.  On Saturday 1Spot will also be hosting the repainting of Michelle Ivette Ponce’s truck with Randie Boogie and Jeremy Arviso providing the fresh graphics to coincide with the grand new murals being posted around town.

I will also have a new painting up at the Coe House Gallery for the “Pre-Phab Opening Reception”, a group show consisting of an eclectic mix of Phoenix artists who participated in the Phoenix Phabulous History Mural project.  The unveiling of the murals happened at the Art D’Core Gala at the Crescent Ballroom over the weekend, with the mayor in attendance, and plenty of Phoenix art socialites lending their flair to the event.

Our opening event for “Abstract Abstract” went well during the Heard Market weekend, and I managed to finish off a board painting with cans on Sunday, so for this weekend I might break out the other side of the board for a little public art.  I will also be working on a new mural for a good friend, starting this week, all while continuing to work on new paintings.

Speaking of new paintings, I’m in the middle of a new digital painting, and I started 3 smaller layered acrylic pieces last night, all to be completed in the near future.  Drop on in this weekend and if your looking for further incentive to come downtown, you should check out Douglas Miles latest exhibit titled, “Apache X” at the Monorchid while your here.  1Spot Gallery is also expanding their retail section and we now include New Mexico’s finest figurative painter, Nani Chacon’s prints.
